MENANAMKAN NILAI-NILAI MISI DALAM PEMANFAATAN ALAT MUSIK KOLINTANG MELALUI PERSPEKTIF MUSIK GEREJA

Abstract

This study examines the use of Kolintang music from the perspective of church music as a means of mission and inculturation of the Christian faith. According to Erik Routley, church music is understood as sung theology, meaning theology sung, so that music functions not only as a complement to the liturgy but also as a living proclamation of faith. Kolintang, as a Minahasan cultural heritage, is imbued with the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, equality, and social harmony, which align with Christian teachings regarding the communion of the body of Christ. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, this study identifies the mission values embodied in Kolintang, analyzes its actual use in churches, and provides practical recommendations. The results indicate that Kolintang can function as a liturgical, educational, and missionary medium, as well as a means of preserving local culture. Thus, the use of Kolintang presents an authentic form of inculturation, connecting the Gospel with local culture, and strengthening the faith and identity of the Minahasan Christian congregation.
